Woman protecting her dog gets chased by an eagle
A British woman who tried to save her dog from getting snatched by an eagle has ended up running for cover when the bird started to attack her…
Tankerton and Whitstable are favourite places to go. Whitstable is a great place to bring visitors but a little hard with a dog if you want to eat inside. There is a good fish and chips shop near the beach though. Some pubs/cafes allow dogs only Couscous isn’t best behaved when tied to a table. Tankerton beach is great, specifically at low tide when you can walk out a little way. It’s difficult to get a park by the beach but there are other car parks not too far back towards Whitstable. There is a cafe on the hill behind the loos.
This is not the Beacon Woods near Ashford, but the one near Dartford. It’s a small wood with picnic tables near the car park. It was a clay pit and opened as a public area 20 years ago. Areas of new growth are more open but there are older, shadier areas (with bluebells in April). There are a couple ponds but they were dry when we visited today. The walk is slightly hilly in some areas, steps provided. It’s main path, the red route, is a 30 minute walk through most of the park.
Couscous first visited here when she stayed with Val, while we were in Australia. When we got out of the car she recognised the village and started dragging me off to the retirement home across the road, where Val’s friend lives. Not sure how dogs do that!
Park on the road near the British Pilot pub and follow the public footpath through a field towards the Thames. There is a variety of birdlife. Note that it can be windy but it’s good an a sunny day.
DogTV cable channel launched in US to keep canines busy
A cable channel has been launched in the US that aims to keep dogs occupied when their owners are away.
DogTV is an eight-hour on-demand service that helps keep canines entertained, stimulated and relaxed, say its creators. Specially created music and muted colours were used to produce the programming, along with low and long shots aimed to replicate how dogs view the world…
I have decided to add another dimension to the blog and write little blurbs on good places to take Couscous for a walk. I will start with where we went today – the Cobham Mausolem. It was recently restored and then acquired by the National Trust. It was designed by James Wyatt for the Darnley family in the late 18th century but never used for burials.
Photos of the mausoleum pre, post and during restoration can be found here.
More historical detail can be found here.
It’s easy to find. Drive along Lodge Lane and just before the bend is a carpark. The path starts by the thatched house and you walk straight until you get to it.
After breakfast we went out to the Lower Higham marshes for a 5 km walk and after lunch we drove to Reculver for a stroll along the ruins and the sea. Couscous handled the horses and cattle on the marshes without much fuss.
